Former starting MLB Joe Mays is officially out for the season. The Denver Broncos have announced Mays will be placed on injured reserve and that he will have left leg surgery to repair his broken left fibula. The break is near his ankle.
Mays will be back in time for offseason conditioning workouts by next May. Mays had started out the season alongside Wesley Woodyard and Von Miller as the starting linebackers for the Broncos in 2012. A severe hit on Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub in Week 3 resulted in a fine and a suspension of one game for Mays. Joe would miss the following week's game vs. the Raiders before returning to the starting lineup at New England. After the Patriots game in Week 5, John Fox would replace Mays with Keith Brooking in the starting lineup at middle linebacker for good.
Brooking continues to start at middle linebacker for the Broncos. Mays was in the midst of playing his third season in the orange and blue.Tags: Denver, Denver Broncos, Football, Joe Mays, Keith Brooking, NFL
